Practice
Founded in 1996, João Laranja Queirós Architects has built a practice committed to architectural quality, rigorous design processes and the social relevance of its work. Over nearly three decades, the studio has developed a diverse body of projects encompassing housing, public facilities, healthcare structures, as well as interior and product design. Its approach is grounded in a careful reading of context, memory and sustainability, seeking architectural responses that contribute to an improved built environment and to the quality of life of the communities it serves.
The practice is led by João Laranja Queirós, born in Vila do Conde in 1971. He graduated in Architecture from the Universidade Lusíada do Porto in 1994 and participated in the VIII Scuola Estiva di Progettazione Internazionale, promoted by the Facoltà di Architettura del Politecnico di Milano in 1992, under the guidance of Moises Gallego, José Manuel Pedreirinho and Gonçalo Byrne. In 2016, he completed his PhD in Architecture at the University of Valladolid with the dissertation “Porto forma Urbis – Cartographic Redesign of Porto”, supervised by Professor Eduardo Carazo Lefort.
Alongside his professional activity, João Laranja Queirós has been Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Architecture and Arts of the Universidade Lusíada do Porto since 1999, combining design practice with academic research and contributing to the education of new generations of architects.
The studio has developed a significant portfolio of projects that reflect a consistent attention to materiality, proportion and the relationship between architectural space and everyday life. Supported by a collaborative working methodology and a sensitivity to contemporary challenges, the practice seeks solutions that balance innovation, environmental responsibility and a deep understanding of place.
